Facilities & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) FAQs

What cleaning practices are in place to ensure a safe environment?

A very thorough cleaning of our facility takes place daily. We have our full Facilities team plus one new role working hard to clean our spaces. They will:

  • Clean and disinfect high-touch areas and equipment - door knobs, water fountains, counters, for examples - four times during the school day. This will happen in classrooms, washrooms and other common areas.
  • Repeat a full school disinfection every evening.
  • Use electrostatic sanitizers to help clean large areas efficiently and effectively.
  • Teachers and students will also be asked to sanitize their work areas regularly, and to wipe down any shared equipment or items after each use.

Can classroom windows be opened to provide more fresh air?

Yes, when weather allows, classroom windows can be opened.

Will staff and students wear masks?

As of August 4, masks are required for staff and students in Grade 4 to12 according to direction from the Province, as follows: AHS notes that “While mandatory mask use is for students in Grades 4 to 12 and all staff, all students and staff in public, separate, Francophone, charter and independent schools will receive two reusable masks from Alberta’s government. Mask use will be mandatory for staff and teachers in all settings where physical distancing cannot be maintained. Students will be required to wear them in all shared and common areas such as hallways and on buses. Exemptions will be made for students and staff who are unable to wear a mask due to medical or other needs. Mask use for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students will continue to be optional. Mask use for younger children is a challenge due to difficulties with proper fit and compliance. In addition, evidence shows that children under 10 may be less likely than older children or adults to transmit COVID-19."
