What safety protocols are required of school staff?
Staff will follow proper hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and physical distancing wherever possible.
To maintain the health and safety of our GCA community, it is important that anyone with COVID-like symptoms stay home until their symptoms resolve, or until they can provide a negative COVID-19 test result.
Staff are expected to self-screen on a daily basis and to follow the same protocols as students if they respond “yes” to any of the screening questions. Symptomatic employees will leave school and isolate at home immediately.
Are visitors/volunteers allowed in the school?
Visitors should not enter the building if they are feeling unwell or are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. All visitors to the school will be asked to use the
COVID-19 Self Assessment for Albertans before they enter the school. If a visitor answers YES to any of the questions, the individual must not be admitted to the school.
To limit the number of people in the building, parent volunteers will not initially be allowed in the school. GCA will review this as the year progresses.
I’m a parent. Can I come into the school?
You may enter the building on a limited basis, but as with visitors, should not enter the building if they are feeling unwell or are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. All visitors to the school will be asked to use the
COVID-19 Self Assessment for Albertans.
Please stay in your vehicle during drop-off and pick-up whenever possible. For new families with young students, we understand you may want to build comfort with drop-off and pick-up - so please work with your child to develop a place to meet outside or in the parking lot during the first four weeks of school. After this point, we ask you to remain in your car during drop-off and pick-up.
Soon we will introduce a new PikMyKid app that GCA will use for dismissal. Details are coming before the school year begins.
Are there exceptions to allowing parents in the school?
Yes, if you are picking up Junior Kindergarten students or those enrolled in Out of School Care, you may enter the building and will not use PikMyKid during pick-up.
If you are only picking up a Kindergarten student, you also will enter the building to pick-up and will not use PikMyKid. If you’re picking up a Kindergarten student and a Grade 1-9 student, you will use PikMyKid so that the Grade 1-9 student can be dismissed.
We recognize there are some circumstances that require parents to come into the school building, including dropping off medication or other supplies and midday pick-up for appointments. When possible, please avoid visits from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.
